Yard Sale Treasures

I went out this weekend with a list of yard sales to hit, but as usual I went around the loop in our subdivision first. Almost every weekend there are unadvertised yard sales around here. I am so glad I have started that habit!

Since we have been putting a sewing a crafting room together I have made a little wish list for items to finish off the space. The very first yard sale I went to had something I have been hoping I would have the good fortune to find. I found a beautiful iron dress form! I was almost afraid to ask the price, but I did it anyway. The husband said $20. I knew it was worth it, but with things being how they are at home I wasn't sure I should get it. Well I got even more brave and asked the wife if they would take $15. She said yes, but I think the husband was mad about it. Oh well, I guess he can be ticked at me because I took it home. So here it is!

Here she is all dressed up in one of my aprons!

I was so excited! I had looked dress forms up online and they were anywhere from $100 on up for ones similar to this one. I think I made out pretty well! Now I have something beautiful to hang my aprons and such on when take my images for my Etsy shop. Double score!

Yard Sale Treasures

I hit the yard sales again this weekend. I am just not having a lot of luck, but I am thankful for the treasures I do find. I went to a couple of thrift stores this week too, but I think I am done with thrift stores around here. The prices are getting a little ridiculous and the service is frustrating. I tried to buy a pattern from one store and the kid at the check out wouldn't sell it because it didn't have a price written on it. I had gotten it out of a bin with a lot of patterns, but he wouldn't even try to find out a price for it. So annoying, but the funniest part was the lady behind me trying to get him to find a price for me. She was determined that I should be able to buy that pattern! I told him forget it, I didn't have time to wait around for a 25 cent purchase.

Anyway....on to what I did find this weekend! I wanted a little trash can to use in my sewing-craft room. I found it! For 25 cents this darling was mine. A little coat of paint and it will be perfect! I also got a book from the nice lady for free! She said they just wanted to get rid of everything. I know how she feels!

I think it must have been for a plant since it has a plastic lining inside.


I love Judy Blume and the other book is also about sisters,
so I should have some good reading ahead!

I hit a few more sales and almost passed up one that looked a little slim. I'm glad I went ahead and stopped! I found L and N each a pair of plaid shorts! 50 cents each and one button later and they each have a super cute new pair of shorts! I hardly ever find clothes for them, so this was a rare treat!

I thought they would both be for N,
but one pair was a lot bigger so L got some new shorts too!

So for a whopping $1.25 I found a few treasures! Not bad, but I am still hoping I'll find some more things for my sewing room and clothes for the school year. Yard Sale Treasures

I've been out and about at yard sales the past few weeks, but it's been slim pickings around here. Fortunately I finally had some luck this weekend! I found a lamp for my new sewing and crafting space. I saw it when I pulled up to the sale. I thought some other ladies were going to snatch it up, but I got there first. It set me back a whole $2! I couldn't believe it! I bought another lamp very similar at Home Goods a couple of years ago and unfortunately I paid A LOT more than that. I was super happy with my find! I can't wait to see it when we finish painting the furniture black.

The next sale I went to had a little paper back book I have been on the lookout for since last summer. I was so excited and it only cost 25 cents! Animal, Vegetable, Miracle is pretty good so far, I like the author's writing style.

Well, that was it for me this weekend. I am hoping to find some baskets and accessories for my new sewing space during my next yard sale adventures! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I Heart Yard Sales!

I am so glad yard sale season is back!!! I got to do a little thrifting too since I have been on spring break. I found quite a few goodies this week.

First, I found these cute canisters for $3 at one of my favorite thrift stores. Since my hubby started making his own mochas I needed something to keep all his ingredients in out on my counter. These are almost exactly what I had pictured in my mind.

Next, well actually first, I found this cute lamp. It was also $3, but I didn't get it the day I saw it in the store. Fortunately for me it was still there when I went back. I was so excited! I love the patina. I was too impatient to wait to find a shade during my yard sale adventures, so I grabbed one at Target. I need to gussy it up, but it will do while I think about how I want to fix it up.

I also hit some yard sales on Saturday. I have been on the lookout for a cookbook holder and scored today! I picked up this blue beauty for $2. As my middle son said, "You got a bargain!"

It would have been great in my country kitchen many moons ago, but it got the ORB (oil-rubbed bronze) treatment as soon as I got it home! I used a tip that I read about on another blog and used a brown as a base coat so I didn't have to use as much as ORB paint. I think it turned out great, if I do say so myself!

At the same yard sale I was able to get 2 beautiful 11 x 14 frames for $1 each! I hurried and gave the husband my money before his wife found out what he was selling her stuff for.

I know exactly what pictures I want to put in these! I can't wait to get to Costco on Monday to get my prints.

I am a happy girl because I think I've found my yard sale groove again! It's been a long winter!! I missed my bargains!

Yard Sale Bust!

Be prepared, little rant ahead-

I was so bummed this weekend. I went out with my list and found nothing! I mean I actually came home with NOTHING! I was hopeful when I stopped at one sale, but the lady shooed me away. She said they would start at 8am. I looked at my watch it was 7:45 or so. Um okay, well it looked to me like they had everything out, but who am I? Nope, I did not go back. My thought was if you don't want people to come and buy your stuff until a certain time then don't put out signs everywhere leading to your house. Am I wrong? I just really couldn't believe someone would send people away. Did she really think people would come back? Okay, enough of my little rant. :)

Anyway I wanted to share some pictures of what I found at a local thrift store later Saturday morning. I found these 5 beautiful golden yellow plates for $9. They're J. C. Penney Home and I love them!

I found a platter a month or so back in the same pattern and put it back. I am so kicking myself now! I am thinking they will look great displayed against my formal dining room accent wall. I am hoping to find a hutch to go there too, so these would take up the space above it!

Since I didn't find much this weekend I wanted to share a few great finds from before my blogging days. K and I headed over to a "yard sale" at some model homes a few months ago. Apparently with the slowdown in building the models had been closed up, but some hoodlums started breaking in a stealing the appliances and furniture. The realtors decided to cut their losses and empty the houses for the time being.

We brought home this beautiful coffee table for a mere $25. It is Thomasville and not a cheaply made piece. I love the inlay pattern on the top and the detail around the side.

We also scored two chairs to go with it, they were only $20! I went on the website for the manufacturer and the cheapest chair I could find in that style was $140! Paired with the coffee table I have the beginning of my "library" area.

I was also able to get this adorable little metal table for my garden. It was only $5.

Yard Sale Finds

All I have to say about this weekend is BOOKS! I am in back to school mode, but I wanted to take a break from prepping my classroom and hit some sales Saturday morning. There weren't many advertised, so I really wasn't expecting much. I didn't find anything for the house, but I did find a lot of books for my classroom or so I thought.

I told the boys to look through the books and see which ones they wanted to keep and which ones could go to school. Fast forward a few minutes...I come back in the room and they made two piles-one to keep and one for school. Guess how many books they put in the school pile...3 yup only 3. I had to override them on that decision, I know they love to read, but really only 3 for school?!? They are silly little guys!

I did find some clothes for me too! I found a cute teal long sleeve and this great Rusty brand brown and pink hoodie sweater! I love sweaters for casual days around here in the fall.

I also found this great chunky sage green scarf for $1. I need scarves for yard duty days during the winter, it gets mighty chilly some days!

At the next sale I found a this cute skirt and 2 shirts. I think the green one will go with one of the skirts I found a few weeks ago! The black one is long sleeved and perfect for layering.

Yard Sale Finds

Well I have been a busy lady the past couple of days! I almost forgot to post all the goodies I found this weekend. I headed out to SA and found a great message board that is already being transformed into a towel rack for the boys' bathroom. I will show you all what I did to it in a couple of days, I promise. (It's almost done, K is adding the hooks as I type-YAY!)

I also found this beautiful (ok-it's not beautiful in its current state) chunky frame. It has already gotten a nice coat of paint and it is as pretty as I knew it could be!

Yard saling this weekend was almost all about clothes. I hit a couple of sales early, and found 2 cardigans and one sweater/shirt for $3. I think they will be great for the chilly mornings coming up.



At another sale I found this great cake stand and coasters. I love the patina of the stand, so I don't think I will be polishing it for now. The coasters are similar to some other ones I found. I am going to sand off the picture, add scrapbook paper, decoupage the top, and seal to make them all match.

I headed over to another sale on my list and found a BEAUTIFUL blazer and a cute Roxy t-shirt. Both for $2! The blazer is from the gap and it is the yummiest material, I think it is a type of velvet.

I found some great deals at the church sale again! These pieces were only 50 cents each! I love that price! Another couple of skirts. A few of shirts for me, 3 shirts for the boys, 2 tops for my goddaughter. I also found this quiche dish and a couple of books for school and home. I spent $7 for all that goodness! Love it! (Not everything is pictured, my OCD tendencies took over and put things in the wash before I got pictures!)

My best score for the weekend was the last sale I hit. As a teacher I bring home way to much stuff most days, so I like to have a wheeled cart to take the load off my back. Unfortunately the little cart I had broke right before school got out. I know...bummer! Well the yard sale gods were on my side! I found a great cart with pocket liner for $5! Z looked up the brand on Google and it was between $40 and $50 at the different sites! Score for mom!

So all in all I had a very good week. I might slow down a little in the next couple of weeks as school begins, but it is relaxing for me to go on the hunt so I might just have to keep it up! Head on over to Rhoda's at Southern Hospitality to see all the goodies everyone else found this week.

Yard Sale Finds

We found some great sales and some great folks along the way! The first sale we hit was run by an older man. If you needed something he probably had it, that's how much he had out! I had just told K a couple of days ago I wanted to find a waffle maker and lo and behold there it was on his table. It was still in a box and is a lot bigger than the one I had before. The cost...$5! Homemade waffles here we come!

The next sale we wound up at was being run by 2 sisters. They were cracking me up pointing out all of the things they had out. K found a bunch of board games in good condition. If you know my boys, you know they LOVE games. We asked how much and they said $1 each! SOLD! We got Pictionary, Bladerdash, and Monopoly. The boxes were dusty, but the games looked like they had hardly ever been used.

At the same sale I hit the mother load for canning jars! I asked the cost and she said $2 a dozen. I was thinking about it when she came back with, "If you take them all I'll give them to you for $5, but the brand new ones will be $2." I looked at K and got out my money. I wasn't sure exactly how many jars there were, but I know a deal when I see one. When we got home I counted them...95 jars! I think I'm ready for canning season now!

Now on to K's favorite finds! He found a Dell computer tower, it seemed to be a newer one so he had me ask how much. The answer $5. OK, don't tell us twice. It is a pentium 4 and had good "bones". K just reloaded the software and cleaned it up. Now his brother has a snazzy new replacement system. Craziness I tell ya! K also found some speakers for Z's computer. Those set us back a whopping $2!

My favorite finds this weekend were 2 very pretty skirts and a couple of new in package pillow forms. Those pillow forms are destined to be pillows in the boys' loft out of the leftover fabric from the curtains. The skirts will be great for the beginning of the school year.
