Birthday Surprise!

Last Friday was my birthday. I was a big girl and went to work even though I really wanted to call a sub for the day.

Anyway, when I got home I was greeted by this…

(well it was still a whole cake when I first saw it)

And these…

And this…

I was so surprised! K made the cake himself, strawberry with pink frosting and sprinkles! It was so sweet and I love that he went to the effort to make something for me! I love tulips and I wanted to see Julie & Julia, so K made me feel wonderful!

Having a great hubby is definitely a finer thing in life!

I have been having a ball in the kitchen lately. My creative and adventurous side has come out for some reason. I need to remember to be a better blogger though; I keep forgetting to take pictures! Oh well, when I make something yummy again I will remind myself to GET. A. PICTURE. I had a great weekend, but as usual they are not long enough. Back to the grindstone we go…

My Life!

Wow things have been busy around here, but it's been a good busy.

This time of year I am really busy at school getting all the last minute materials covered so my kiddos are ready for state testing. We've practiced and I have seen so much growth, but April will be here before I know it so it really is crunch time! I like this time of year, but it is nerve racking too. We want to show everything they have learned, but they are still only 2nd graders! I wish I could take the tests for them, but I know they will do a great job!

We've also been busy at home getting the garden ready for planting. K and I have spent a lot of time battling weeds that the rains fed. I think we won! K has started tilling everything, so we might be able to put some rows of seeds down this weekend (if the rain stays away). I am so excited about our garden this year!! Last year we got a late start because the fence wasn't finished, but we're totally ready this year.

Our garden last year with the new dog proof fence!

The boys have been doing great! N finished basketball last Saturday. He had a blast and gained some skills in the process. I loved playing basketball, so I am hoping he'll keep it up so we can play together! L and Z are doing their thing, computers! They crack me up on a daily basis. I am a lucky mama!

Last but not least I get to have another birthday on Friday! I am so grateful for everyday I get to spend with my boys! Getting to wake up in my life, crazy as it can get, is definitely a finer thing!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Falling into Place

I am a worrier. No doubt about it...planner + type A personality = worrier. My husband on the other hand is not a worrier (unless the boys are around water). He is my balance and I need to lean on his side a little more often.

I had been getting a budget set up for the rest of the month and fretting about this or that. He heard me, but was calm that everything would work out for the best. Guess who was right? Yup, K knew we would be just fine. I don't know how he knows, but he always knows that things are going to be okay.

I am so grateful this man was put into my life to teach me how to relax and let things fall into place. Our lives are pretty interesting these days, but not as stressful as they could be! Sometimes the little things just have to be left as little things.

Until next time,

Menu Plan for the Week 2-7-10

We had a great week, although it was busy. I have been doing things around the house that need attention, so my blogging has taken a hit. Hopefully I'll be on more this week, but we'll see. Z's birthday went great! He loved the salmon, but the rest of us weren't too keen on it. K and I really wanted to like it since it is full of so much goodness, but we just didn't care for it. I guess we'll have to stick to supplements to get the omega-3s. Anyway I am glad we all tried it and I tried cooking something new.

I am still working on limiting our grocery shopping. Today K and I will be heading out to Costco and Winco for milk, lunch meat, and some Hershey Bars for a fraction activity in my classroom. Other than that we are looking good in the pantry and freezer. I am trying my best to rein in our grocery budget a little. I don't think it was out of line before, but I like the challenge of trying to spend less.

Here is what we have planned for this week:

Becoming a Mom

Twelve years ago today my life was forever changed. I became a mom for the first time. My beautiful tiny baby boy joined this world 2 weeks early. My Z was born at 2:16am and weighed an unbelievable 5 lbs 12 oz. He was so small and so perfect with his fuzzy blond hair and perfect fingers and toes. I had not known how much I would love this child, but I would soon learn of an amazing love I never knew was out there. My love for this boy is as strong today as it was the day I met him for the first time.

On his twelfth birthday that 5 lb baby is now a 125 lb young man who is almost as tall as me! He is so smart and loves to joke around. It is so amazing to have a conversation with this kid who is wise beyond his years!

So today I am so very grateful for Z making me a moma for the first time. Having him was one of the best things that ever happened in my life. I am so looking forward to watching him grow to be an amazing man!

Happy Birthday Baby!! I love you!
